Companies (Impact on Communities Abroad) Bill - A bill to make UK companies legally accountable for damage to communities and environments abroad has been backed by the CORE coalition, including Friends of the Earth. Details: www.corporate-responsibility.org. A Corporate Responsibility Bill was proposed by Andy King MP last year but blocked by the Government in January 2004.
Household Waste Recycling Act - In 2003 Joan Ruddock MP got government support for a private members bill which will require doorstep recycling collections for almost everyone by 2011. The campaign now is to get local authorities to provide better services now. (See our recycling page.)
Early Day Motions
One of the ways you can ask your MP to influence the government is through supporting Early Day Motions (EDMs). Some EDMs you can ask them to support are:
  • EDM 70 (Alan Simpson MP) - Food Justice.
  • EDM 133 (Alan simpson MP) - Microgeneration
  • EDM 178 (Michael Meacher MP + John Gummer & Norman Baker) - Climate Change - calls for a target of 3% cuts in climate change gases per year.
