NEWS IN BRIEF

Climate Action Network Nottinghamshire (CANN) launched - Last July three MPs backed the launch of CANN (Vernon Coaker, Nick Palmer, Paddy Tipping), each making a pledge to take personal action on climate change. To make your pledge, see www.climatenotts.org.uk

Eastcroft Incinerator expansion - In September 2006 the City Council turned down planning permission for expansion of the incinerator. Labour, Conservative and Liberal Democrat parties all backed the campaign by NAIL (Nottingham Against Incineration and Landfill). But incinerator owners WRG reapplied. An Inspector will hold a public hearing later this year. For background see www.nail.uk.net

Campaign against incinerator proposed for Rainworth - The county have contracted with Veolia (formerly Onyx) to manage all their waste. They intend to build an incinerator on the former Rufford Colliery site just North of Rainworth. Local people have linked with Mansfield Against Incineration to form People Against Incineration (PAIN). Background: www.p-a-in.co.uk
