Private Members' Bills
During the 1999-2000 session of Parliament, three MPs were promoting Bills drafted by FOE (see right).
Nottingham South MP Alan Simpson played a leading role in getting the Warm Homes and Energy Conservation Act passed into law. The Nottingham Evening Post supported this Act as part of their Old and Cold campaign. This Act requires the Government to produce a plan to ensure people can afford to keep their homes warm by a programme of energy conservation, and to ensure an end to Fuel Poverty within 15 years.
Alan Simpson has also played a leading role in promoting a law to make biotech companies liable for any damage caused by GM crops. (See separate page.) |
