STOP BIOFUELS TARGETS (2008)

East Midlands MEP Bill Newton-Dunn (centre) was lobbied by representatives from Friends of the Earth and Oxfam in June 2008.

We were asking MEPs to vote against EU targets to increase the use of biofuels in road transport because there is increasing evidence that large-scale production of biofuels could: destroy important habitats like rainforests take food and land from the poorest people increase climate change overall.

East Midlands Friends of the Earth also lobbied Glenis Willmott MEP. Unfortunately, although both were sympathetic to our arguments, neither agreed to vote against the EU targets - see www.foe.co.uk/biofuels.
