Nottingham backs Vestas solidarity day (Aug 09)

Following eviction of workers occupying the Vestas wind turbine factory on the Isle of Wight, people in Nottingham backed a day of action on 12 August. Nottingham Friends of the Earth joined trade unionists and others in demanding action from the government to defend jobs in renewable energy.

Vestas was the only wind turbine factory in the UK, employing 600 workers, but was allowed to close even though the government is supposed to be promoting an increase in wind energy. FOE nationally has joined with trade unionists to promote investment in renewables to create green jobs. (See petition to Lord Mandelson.)
